4 Winery Day Trips from Wichita, KS
Did you know Kansas and Missouri were the leading wine and grape producers before prohibition? But now it’s growing (pun intended) once again! If you are looking for fun weekend plans, here are 4 wineries that are a great day trip from Wichita, KS.
Grace Hill Winery
Grace Hill Winery is actually the first winery we ever visited five years ago. A friend of ours worked there and invited us out. Little did we know it would open up all of this! This winery is only 30 min outside of Wichita right down 135. They have a variety of Dry, Sweet, and Semi-Sweet Wine with tastings or flights. What I love about Grace Hill are the events (dog-o-ween is my favorite Halloween tradition), walking around the vineyard, and sitting up top on the balcony that over looks the vineyard. Visit their website here.
2. Prairie Fire Winery
Prairie Fire Winery is another Clink Local favorite. We discovered this winery while living in Salina, so it was a closer drive. However, still worth the day trip. Prairie Fire Winery is 2 hours 30 min from Wichita. They don’t just have great wine, they have an amazing selection of candles, local meats, and cheeses. We always end up selecting a variety of crackers, spreads, cheeses, and meats to make a DIY charcuterie to enjoy on the back patio. Make sure to give the winery pup, Brie, some good pets while you are there! She’s a rescue so she’s shy, but so so sweet. Visit Prairie Fire’s website to make a tasting reservation.
3. Liquid Art Winery
This family owned winery has a great view of the Flint Hills, cozy tasting room with a fire place, and big event space. Liquid Art Winery is located in Manhattan, KS so it’s just a little over 2 hours away from Wichita, KS. My (Hannah) favorite time to go is when it’s cold outside to enjoy a hot cup of their Mulled Wine. But we have also been there during the summer to enjoy some live music. In the tasting room, you can try their Dry, Sweet, Semi-Sweet, Barrel Age Series, and Ciders. Visit here to learn more about Liquid Art.
4. 456 Wineries
Okay, 456 Wineries is such a cool place and let us tell you why. It’s a business incubator for wine businesses. The 3 wineries they currently feature are Highland Vineyards and Winery, Zydeco Meadery, and Hiatus Wine. They partner with Highland Community College Viticulture and Enology program to teach about growing grapes and making wine…
Guys, every time we visit, we pick up EVERY SINGLE PAMPHLET about the program because what a dream to learn how to make wine! According to their website, “As of the fall of 2020, 456 Wineries has five total wineries in the facility. 456 Wineries is the first American winery business incubator east of the Rocky Mountains.” How cool is that?! The variety of wine is great and we have visited during the summer for live music.
It’s located in Wamego, KS, 2 hr 22 min away from Wichita, KS. We love to support these small businesses, and it inspires us every time we visit! Learn more about them here.
