Miss Hannah

A sweet drink invented by me for Hannah after we discovered Kansas City Canning’s Smoked Pear Shrub at Smoky Valley Distilling. I couldn’t decide on a name and when I asked my dad for a suggestion he said, “Well it’s a drink Hannah loves? How ‘bout calling it the ‘Miss Hannah?’”

The Sagist (Kyle’s Version)

This cocktail recipe is from The Monarch in Wichita, one of our favorite local restaurants and cocktail bars (go visit if you haven’t yet!) But I decided to add a touch of bitters to add a little more complexity to the taste. This simple cocktail recipe is perfect for a summer day!

  • Jigger or shot glass

  • Knife

  • Citrus juicer

  • Spoon

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz of your favorite local whiskey

  • .75 oz Sage infused simple syrup

  • .25 oz lemon juice

  • 3 dashes bitters

  • Lemon wedge or peel

Steps:

  1. Add all ingredients in a rocks glass with ice.

  2. Stir to combine.

  3. Garnish with a lemon wedge or a lemon peel.

Gin and Tonic

Equipment:

  • Rocks Glass

  • Knife

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz craft gin (Company Distilling’s Ghost Rail Gin brings amazing botanicals)

  • quality tonic water

  • Lime wedges

Steps:

  1. Add your favorite gin to a rocks glass with ice.

  2. Top with tonic water.

  3. Juice from a lime wedge.

  4. Stir gently and enjoy!

I always enjoy a little extra lime in mine, so I usually add an additional lime wedge. At least as a garnish!

Simple Syrup

Don’t be a goober and buy a bottle of over-priced simple syrup. It’s so easy to make at home! It’s just sugar and water. Unless you want to change it up which is great. But you can easily do that however you’d like. Adjust amounts as necessary to make more or less!

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup water

Heat water to a boil. Turn down heat to a simmer. Add sugar. Stir until combined and sugar is dissolved. Let cool to at least room temp. Store in fridge. Bing Bang Boom ya got some simple syrup that didn’t cost you $5 for half the amount.

Honey Sage Simple

  • 1/2 cup honey

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 1 bunch sage

Heat water to a boil. Add honey. Reduce heat to a simmer. Stir until combined and all honey is dissolved. Add sage and stir to incorporate. Let sage steep as syrup cools. Remove sage and strain syrup. Enjoy!
